Another push notification, one more tag, more hashtags to track. Social media is awesome and all, but I think we’re getting close to the limit of useful social networks. Im an enthusiastic user of social tools and even I sometimes struggle to keep up with all of them. There are just so many networks and people are sharing and generating tons of content.

If we add to the already long list of social networks, will people continue to join and become active users? I’m starting to think not. I’m not a very active Google plus user because I cant get my friends to spend time there instead of on Facebook. The same is true of other networks. I find that my connections have a lot of influence over what networks I’m likely to use. Going forward I think many of the networks with complimentary features will merge if for no other reason than to reach a higher number of active users.
